Before IV Sedation or General Anesthesia

Important Instructionsfor patients scheduled for General Anesthesia/IV Sedation

  1. Nothing to eat or drink after midnight. You may have small quantities of clear liquids up to 4 hours prior to your scheduled surgery to include ONLY: water, apple juice, gatorade, black coffee or tea, NO milk
  2. You must have a responsible adult with you to receive your post-operative instructions and drive you home You may not drive for 24 hours after surgery or while taking narcotic pain medication.
  3. Minors (under 18 years old) must have a parent or legal guardian present.
  4. If you must take regular scheduled medication you may do so with a small sip of water only For patients required to pre-medicate with prophylactic antibiotics, please take dose 1 hour prior to surgery with small sip of water.
  5. Avoid any alcoholic beverage for 24 hours prior to surgery.
  6. Please wear a shirt with short sleeves
  7. Remove nail polish, contact lenses, all jewelry and piercings prior to arrival
  8. If there is a question of illness, please contact our office immediately, your surgery may have to be delayed.
