Meet Dr. David Beanland, DMD, MD

Dr. David Beanland is a highly respected, board-certified oral and maxillofacial surgeon with extensive experience in advanced surgical procedures and in-office anesthesia. With over two decades of training, teaching, and clinical leadership, Dr. Beanland provides surgical care across all three New England Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery locations in Billerica, Westford, and Worcester.

Education and Surgical Training

Raised in Massachusetts, Dr. Beanland began his academic journey at Merrimack College, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in Biology in 1984. He went on to attend Tufts University School of Dental Medicine, graduating Summa Cum Laude with his Doctorate of Dental Medicine in 1992.

Dr. Beanland then pursued medical training at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine, where he received his Doctor of Medicine in 1995. He completed a general surgery internship and later his full oral and maxillofacial surgery residency at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, finishing in 1998.

Military Service and Teaching Roles

After residency, Dr. Beanland served as a Major in the U.S. Army Dental Corps, where he practiced as the lead oral and maxillofacial surgeon at Fort Irwin’s National Training Center. He was later appointed as an assistant director at Madigan Army Medical Center in Washington state, where he trained residents in advanced surgical care.

Leadership in the Oral Surgery Community

Dr. Beanland is currently the President of the Massachusetts Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, where he also serves on the executive committee and anesthesia subcommittee. He is actively involved in promoting safe, effective techniques for office-based anesthesia, especially in pediatric and adolescent patients.

Dr. Beanland’s areas of clinical expertise include:

Outpatient pediatric anesthesia and surgery, with a focus on young children and patients with special needs

Wisdom tooth removal, including complex and impacted cases

Facial trauma surgery and the treatment of jaw infections and oral pathology

Dental implants, including full-arch reconstructions using implant-supported dentures and Hybridge® systems

Bone grafting, jaw reconstruction, and ridge augmentation to prepare patients for implant placement

Outside the Practice

When not in the operating room, Dr. Beanland enjoys spending time with his wife Sarah and their two sons. He finds peace in the outdoors, especially sailing along the coast of Maine and skiing in Vermont.
