What Is Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery?

Oral and maxillofacial surgery is a hospital-level specialty that integrates dental, medical, and anesthesia training. Our surgeons—Dr. David Beanland, Dr. Peter Vellis, and Dr. Albert Kang—are board-certified and experienced in pediatric and adult anesthesia, jaw reconstruction, facial trauma surgery, wisdom teeth removal, dental implants, TMJ disorder treatment, and obstructive sleep apnea procedures. We are also proud to serve as the official oral surgery partners of the Worcester Red Sox.

Surgical & Anesthesia Team

When not in the operating room, Dr. Beanland enjoys spending time with his wife Sarah and their two sons. He finds peace in the outdoors, especially sailing along the coast of Maine and skiing in Vermont.

New Patients: What to Expect

Your first appointment will include a comprehensive evaluation, review of medical history, and discussion of treatment options. In some cases, surgery can be performed on the same day. However, complex medical conditions or procedures may require a second appointment.

Please bring the following:

Your referral slip and any X-rays from your referring provider
A current list of medications
Medical or dental insurance cards
A parent or legal guardian for all patients under 18

Please notify us in advance if you:

Are taking blood thinners (e.g., Coumadin, Pradaxa)
Have a medical condition that may require special precautions
Need help obtaining or transferring X-rays — we can take additional films in our office if needed
